Cambridge Golf Club HistoryThe Village of Clyde was first settled by William Anderson in 1831. William Anderson is believed to be the first person to explore north of the 8th Concession. Mr. Anderson then newly married, left his wife Anna Anderson with friend David Mulholland and headed north with his oxen, an axe and supplies. William battled the dense forest, cutting logs, brush and trees the entire distance of the 10th concession. William travelled 2 1/2 miles in four days only to find himself in a sea of trees, with no signs of clearing. When Mr. Anderson did not return for some time, neighbours and friends began to assume he may be lost or even dead. However, William was not lost or dead. He was battling the forest and the stormy blast of winter building a one room shelter. William did return for his bride and brought her to their new home, nestled in the dense forest which is now known as lot 4 on the 10th concession. (This is now Hole #5, 12, 13 and 15 of the golf course.) The Anderson Family Plot Plot #1 (Broken into three pieces) Alzina,

Charlie Palmer purchased the Galaglades Golf and Country Club in 1973. Mr. Palmer made his first order of business to change the name of the club to Cambridge Golf and Country Club. Mr. Palmer also resided in the old farm house, but he constructed the first phase of the clubhouse which included a kitchen, lounge/lunch room and Men's and Women's bathrooms. Mr. Palmer also converted the old farm garage into what is still currently the proshop. Andy Byrne, Peter Copland and Associates purchased Cambridge Golf and Country Club November 15, 1985. Andy and his family kept with tradition and also lived in the old farm house making him the 3rd consecutive owner to reside on the property. Mr. Byrne was a CPGA professional and saw the potential of Cambridge Golf Club years prior. Mr. Byrne with a background in golf saw the prospect to change the layout of the holes for a more enjoyable and faster round of golf. Mr. Byrne was also responsible for building the final additions to the clubhouse and planting over one thousand trees to define the rolling fairways.
The Corporation of 3-M Golf Inc., consisting of Chris Miranda, Carla Munch-Miranda and Blaine Miller and Associates purchased Cambridge Golf and Country Club January 10, 2006 |
